Velocity's Dermatology research site in Baton Rouge partners with The Dermatology Clinic & Cosmetic Center to conduct clinical trials related to skin conditions such as acne, atopic dermatitis, rosacea, and more. The Dermatology Clinic offers a wide range of treatment options to address many types of skin (dermal) issues. Offering general, surgical, pediatric, and cosmetic dermatology in-house, the clinic began conducting clinical trials with Meridian Clinical Research in 2017 before being acquired by Velocity in 2022.

Located near several other medical offices and minutes from a local hospital, the site is easily accessible to thousands of patients, including those established with the practice and diverse populations. All trials conducted at the site are performed in accordance with ICH and FDA guidelines, and in compliance with GCP. The Baton Rouge team is committed to being a resource for study participants, to providing the highest quality of patient care with compassion and kindness, and to advancing medicine through research.

    Principal Investigator
    Amie Breaux Shannon, MD joined the Dermatology Clinic & Cosmetic Center in 2005. Board certified in Dermatology, Dr. Breaux Shannon received her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport, LA and completed a dermatology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. She served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology for three years at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC, and is a current diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology.

  • Nicole Mathis Harrell, MD

    Principal Investigator
    Nicole Mathis Harrell, MD joined the Dermatology Clinic & Cosmetic Center in 2012. Board Certified in Dermatology, Dr. Mathis Harrell received her medical degree from Louisiana State University in New Orleans, LA and completed a dermatology internship at Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA. She also completed a dermatology residency at Louisiana State University. Dr. Mathis Harrell is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.

  • Jordan Whatley, MD

    Principal Investigator
    Jordan Whatley, MD specializes in dermatology and has been in private practice since 2011. Board certified in Dermatology, Dr. Whatley received his medical degree from Louisiana State University and achieved Junior AOA and pharmacology honors. He also completed an internal medicine internship at Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA and a dermatology residency at Louisiana State University, where he served as Chief Resident his final year. Dr. Whately currently serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor for the Louisiana State University Department of Dermatology, a Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology, and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.

  • Mary Dobson, MD

    Principal Investigator
    Mary Dobson, MD joined the Dermatology Clinic & Cosmetic Center in 2008. She has been practicing medicine in Baton Rouge and Hammond, LA since 2000. Board certified in Dermatology, Dr. Dobson received her medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical School in Shreveport, LA and completed a dermatology residency at Louisiana State University Medical School in Shreveport, LA. She also completed a dermatology residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Dobson currently serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA.

  • Kristen LeBleu Losavio, MD

    Sub Investigator
    Kristen LeBleu Losavio, MD joined the Dermatology Clinic & Cosmetic Center in 2016. Board certified in Dermatology, Dr. LeBleu Losavio received her medical degree from Louisiana State University in New Orleans, LA and completed an internal medicine internship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. She also completed a dermatology residency at Emory University in Atlanta, GA where she served as chief resident. Dr. LeBleu Losavio is a member of American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatological Surgery, Society for Pediatric Dermatology, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
