Our Story

Conducting Clinical Trials Since 1988

Velocity Clinical Research, Denver founded in 1988 as Downtown Women’s Health Care has a long history in women’s health research and is expanding into Vaccine and Internal Medicine. Velocity Denver services the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood service area with a population of 2.9 million and rapidly growing.  Denver’s experienced staff maintains high quality standards and enrollment on all their trials.


Located along a major roadway, the Denver site is in a high traffic shopping center. With access to a large population, the Denver team excels at meeting enrollment goals on all their studies. Ample parking is available for patients. The site is located 2 miles from a local hospital.


The Denver team is committed to being a resource for study volunteers, to providing the highest quality of patient care with compassion and kindness and to advancing medicine through research. By becoming part of the Velocity Clinical Research organization in 2021, they added new efficiencies and integration to their already comprehensive approaches to conducting clinical trials.

Our Experienced Research Team

The Velocity Denver team of physician investigators and clinical research professionals are experienced clinical researchers. All physicians are board certified in their specialty area(s) and all research staff is trained in clinical research regulations, including GCP and HIPAA. Training records and certifications are maintained. Our clinical team is dedicated to conducting quality research in a professional and caring environment and strives on collecting quality data.

Theresa O’Lonergan, PhD, MA

Site Director

Theresa O’Lonergan, PhD, MA has been in clinical research and research administration for 25 years.

Dr. O’Lonergan earned her PhD in clinical investigations from the University of Colorado. After retiring  from CU School of Medicine she held Research Integrity Officer positions in several large health systems and joined Velocity in 2021.

Kevin O'Brien, MD

Principal Investigator

Kevin O’Brien, MD is the Medical Director for the Denver site.  He was trained in Pediatrics at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston and is board certified in the subspecialty of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (with training at the University of Cincinnati).  He works with both children and adults.  He has both clinical and research experience primarily in the areas of asthma, allergies (environmental and food allergies), immunology, vaccines, dermatology, gastroenterology (with a Master’s degree in Nutrition), and pharmacogenomics.
