People who volunteer to participate in clinical trials are key to the advancement of medical research. Our sites are dedicated to conducting clinical trials with an emphasis on patient care. Our physician investigators and other members of our research teams are extensively trained in different medical subspecialties as well as the complex field of clinical research. Velocity Clinical Research, Syracuse, formerly Clarity Clinical Research, is part of the Velocity Clinical Research organization, a wholly owned Site Organization, providing excellence in patient care, high quality data and fully integrated research sites.

Our Story

Conducting Clinical Trials Since 2017

Velocity Clinical Research, Syracuse founded in 2017 as Clarity Clinical Research, an independent dedicated research center. Velocity Syracuse offers expertise in diabetes, NASH, vaccine, and neurology trials. Syracuse’s experienced staff maintains the highest standard of quality and patient care on all their trials.

Conveniently located on the intersection of major local highways, Velocity Syracuse is one of few research sites in the Central New York area. The site has ample parking available for patients. The local hospital is 2 miles away from the research site.

The Syracuse team is committed to being a resource for study volunteers, to providing the highest quality of patient care with compassion and kindness and to advancing medicine through research. By becoming part of the Velocity Clinical Research organization in 2021, they added new efficiencies and integration to their already comprehensive approaches to conducting clinical trials.

Our Experienced Research Team

The Velocity Syracuse team of physician investigators and clinical research professionals are experienced clinical researchers. All physicians are board certified in their specialty area(s) and all research staff is trained in clinical research regulations, including GCP and HIPAA. Training records and certifications are maintained. Our clinical team is dedicated to conducting quality research in a professional and caring environment and strives on collecting quality data.

Robert Cupelo, MD

Principal Investigator

Dr. Robert C. Cupelo attended Syracuse University and SUNY Upstate Medical University, receiving his MD degree in 1982. He served an internship in internal medicine at the University of Massachusetts Hospital in Worcester, MA from 1982-1983 and completed his internal medicine residency at SUNY Upstate from 1983-1985.

Dr. Cupelo ran a solo primary care internal medicine practice from 1985 to 1994.  He joined CNY Internists in 1994 and practiced primary care medicine along with responsibilities as managing partner through 2014. He transitioned to personalized medicine with MDVIP in 2011 and started solo practice for MDVIP in 2014. Dr. Cupelo retired from internal medicine in 2021 after 36 years in practice.

Dr. Cupelo began working  at the Syracuse location in 2017 as the site's Principal Investigator.

Dr. Cupelo is married with 5 grown children, and now 4 grandchildren.  He enjoys gardening, baking bread, music, golf and most of all, visiting his children and grandchildren in Cincinnati, OH and New England.

Kristen Stebbins

Site Director

Kristen Stebbins has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Binghamton University. She returned to school for a Master of Science in Public Health. Kristen worked in engineering and ICU nursing before transitioning into clinical research in 2014. She joined the team at Clarity Clinical Research in 2020, which became Velocity Clinical Research in 2021. She has 2 young boys and enjoys cooking and gardening.
